ATTENTION

The worst happened. After months of waiting and paying a small fortune, your website is finally delivered and it's a mess. With your reputation and potential on the line, it's time to decide what to do. How do you fix things?

Your dream website has become a nightmare. You hate it, your boss hates it, and everyone is ashamed that potential customers will see it. Unfortunately this is a problem that arises more often than you think. Who's to blame and why it happened doesn't change the fact that the site is a mess.

Don't panic!

When faced with a new website it is normal to have a strong reaction. People dislike change, as can be seen from user reactions every time Facebook redesigns. It takes time to adjust to the change, so don't do anything immediately.

Assess where the problem lies

Despite how you may hear, it's rare for a website to be a complete disaster. Our disappointment often leads us to dismiss the entire site superficially, rather than looking objectively at where the problem lies. This can be a costly mistake because we end up throwing out the good work with the bad.

Before rejecting the whole site try to identify where it fails. The site typically fails in one or more of the following areas:

  • Visual aspect.

  • usability.

  • Management.

  • Business objectives.
